Renault and road safety

For the past 50 years, safety behind the wheel has been a major strategic focus for Renault. Each year, Renault spends more than 100 million euros on Research and Development. It carries out more than 350 crash tests and 4,500 virtual crashes in order to make its cars safer.

Renault effectue chaque année près de 350 crash test pour s'assurer de la sécurité de tous ses véhicules

A forerunner in the field of car safety with numerous innovations to its credit (seat belt force limiters in 1995, seatbelt pretensioners in 1998, adaptive airbag inflation in 2001…), today Renault sells a range of vehicles designed to the highest level of safety on the market. Renault is the only vehicle manufacturer to have nine cars with a EuroNCAP 5-star rating*.

Renault’s safety policies are centred on 4 areas:

Safety for all - prevent - Safety for all

Prevent accidents, with systems such as tire pressure monitoring, the speed limiter and intelligent navigation. This way, risks can be anticipated and the driver can concentrate on the road

Sécurité routière - corriger - Sécurité pour tous

Correct vehicle trajectory, with Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC/ESP). Those systems improve vehicle response in difficult or dangerous conditions, and compensate for inappropriate driver reaction (but without taking control out of the driver’s hands).

Safety for all - protect - Safety for all

Protect, in the event of an accident, through controlled structure crumpling and the Renault System for Restraint and Protection (pretensioners, seatbelts with load limiters, controlled event airbags).

Safety for all - raising awareness - Safety for all

Raising awareness about the dangers of the road. As a responsible automaker, Renault has also made a commitment beyond car safety by conducting large-scale road safety awareness campaigns both within the company and directed at the public at large.

*EuroNCAP is an international independant test organization, wich conducts tests on vehicles purchased anonymously in order to assess their passive safety rating. Each vehicle receives a number of ponits between 0 and 37 points for a final score of between 0 and 5 stars.
